The Smashing Pumpkins, one of the biggest rock groups of the 1990s, will perform an eight-show residency at the Fillmore, July 22-Aug. 1. Tickets for $25 go on sale (online only) Sunday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at www.ticketmaster.com and www.livenation.com. (Limit two per person.) The band promises to play old favorites; songs from the upcoming “Zeitgeist” album, slated for release on July 10; and even “tunes written the day of the show,” with the set list varying from night to night.
The shows will take place July 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 30 and 31 and Aug. 1. The Fillmore shows will follow a nine-show stand at the Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C., June 23-July 5.
This will be the band’s first appearance at the Fillmore since April 1994, when it was invited to perform at the reopening of the historic venue. The band split in 2000. The new lineup will feature front man Billy Corgan, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin and two people you’ve never heard of.
My query is always, who is running out of money?
